Traditionally, homebuyers would purchase the home through the listing agent. The listing agent represents the SELLER. Even today, we continue to hear horror stories about consumers being SOLD or PRESSURED to buy a home by agents claiming to be their "buyer's agent". Only an Exclusive Buyer's Agent can provide representation without a conflict of interest. Sometimes a traditional Real Estate Agent will represent both clients in a transaction which leaves everyone without proper representation. This is called dual agency. Agents claiming to be buyer's agents also have in house listings. The agents here attend the same office meetings and share the same copy machines which could expose confidential information about your transaction.
